Civil Air Search and Rescue Association
of Manitoba

That Others May Live

Established in 1986, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association of Manitoba (CASARA MB) is made up of dedicated volunteers providing the following emergency services:

  • Airborne searches using light aircraft (visual searching, plus radio homing on emergency beacons)
  • Ground searches for emergency beacons
  • Airborne searches using drone teams
  • Spotters to assist crews on Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CC-130 Hercules aircraft
  • Promoting Search and Rescue (SAR) awareness

CASARA is funded nationally through the RCAF Contribution Agreement. Training, equipment, and administration are covered under this agreement.

Members are available for searches 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Search taskings come from the Joint Rescue and Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Trenton ON, and our provincial Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

We provide air search support services for overdue aircraft, missing person, and also promote Canada’s Search and Rescue Program.

Membership is open to aircraft owners, pilots, as well as those who wish to serve as spotters, navigators, and more.

Aviation and SAR experience is valuable, but not a requirement. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, and these varied perspectives make us stronger.
